"I've been dreaming of this all my life but I never thought it would happen to me."
Robin Turner – Recipient
For several years now Danae Valle – Co Owner of Studio D Salon, an upscale, full-service salon in Nampa, has spearheaded the "Touch One Life" fashion show. Valle's vision was to bring together the best of the Treasure Valley's fashion and beauty industry to transform well deserving women of all ages, shapes and sizes. The event was wildly successful and raised thousands of dollars for local charities such as the women's domestic violence shelter, Hope's Door.
This year, Valle and her team took a different approach to the "Touch One Life" concept and accepted nominations from their clients to make-over their co-workers. Saturday afternoon, Studio D was a buzz as 10 worthy participants descended on the salon with anticipation and excitement. The women were all from different backgrounds but had two things in common. They were all nominated because they were loved and admired by their co-worker nominators and secondly, none of them would ever be able to purchase the services they were about to receive.
Participants were greeted immediately by the eager stylists who ushered them to their stations where the pampering began. Dutch Bros. was on hand to "rev up" the festivities with complimentary iced mochas and gourmet goodies were catered by Bon Appetite. The real treat however was in the form of relaxing massages, pedicures, eyebrow waxing and tinting, paraffin wax hand massages, make up and clothing education and amazing haircuts, coloring and styling!
Studio D client, MC Nilan, a WITCO Program Manager nominated Robin Turner. Turner's story is an all too familiar one this day in age. She's a widow raising her 2 special needs granddaughters ages 8 and 11. As an employee of WITCO, Robin works with adults with disabilities reintroducing them into the community. She admits that there isn't much money left after taking care of her obligations to spend on such frivolous things as new clothes and salon services. "I watch shows like, Extreme Make Over Home Edition and other shows where people, people who really deserve it, are getting made over and things like that and I sometimes wish it could be me." The day's activities seem to all hit home as she was talking to Studio D's owner. "I've been dreaming of this all my life but I never thought it would happen to me." Overwhelmed by the comment Valle had to excuse herself. Neither one of them knew it at the time but they shared a pretty big similarity. The whole reason Danae started "Touch One Life" was to benefit women and children affected by drugs. Her inspiration comes from her youngest daughter whom she adopted and was born to a drug addicted mother. How appropriate that Robin whom she herself adopted her granddaughters who also have special needs due to being born to a drug addicted mother, be so touched by this event. "I'm just so blessed" said Turner about all of the services she received. It was hard to deny the obvious new glow about her. Her child like smile was proof that her life truly was touched.
Valle and her team donated thousands of dollars of services and countless hours of their time because they believe in our community and the power that comes from serving it. They encourage everyone to take what they do best and "Touch One Life" with that gift!
